Billions at Stake as Trump Pushes Saudi-Israel Deal Connection
U.S. President Donald Trump stated that a civil nuclear pact worth many billions between the U.S. and Saudi Arabia will be contingent upon Riyadh's recognition of Israel through the Abraham Accords. While the U.S. Department of Energy claimed that the agreement is for non-military purposes and will benefit economic cooperation and non-proliferation, there have been fears expressed by some that helping out Saudi Arabia with their nuclear program may lead to proliferation in the future within the unstable region. Previously, Saudi Arabia demanded the creation of an independent Palestinian state before they could normalize relations with Israel.
